Project summary

La Trobe Violence Against Women Network (LAVAWN) draws together the breadth of gender-based violence expertise operating across La Trobe University. A research and university operations network, LAVAWN includes experts in prevention, early intervention, and response across all forms of violence and inequalities.

La Trobe University has long been home to a growing number of multi-disciplinary researchers in family violence, violence against women and gender-based violence. In 2015, a group of researchers across the university decided that much could be gained by coming together to create a formal network.

Project aims

The aims of LAVAWN are to:

  • foster innovation in violence against women research, evaluation, and knowledge translation
  • build capacity of students and early career researchers through support and mentorship
  • strengthen and grow La Trobe’s internal and external collaboration and partnerships on violence against women research.

LAVAWN aims to strengthen the evidence base to support policy and interventions that keep women and their children safe from violence. Their research involves a range of multi-disciplinary and methodological research expertise

LAVAWN also plays an advocacy role for violence against women prevention and response initiatives across the university sector.
